FCUK

When Cactus Imaging approached the team at OE to wrap the façade of a derelict building in North Melbourne their response was a confident "can do". The brief was to cover an existing wall that was somewhat of an eyesore with a huge vinyl banner advertising the Witchery clothing brand – FCUK.

The first challenge was to design and engineer a suitable frame and banner tensioning system that could handle the enormous wind loads of such a large surface area while maintaining a tight budget. All engineering computations had to be submitted to the client prior to commencement to gain council approval for a building permit.

The fixing for the frame proved to be the next challenge. Once again staying within budget the team needed to prove that they had suitable fastening to secure the frame to the old brick and concrete façade.

After the frame was complete and had been verified by our site engineer all that remained was to pick a reasonably favourable weather day and go for it. Using two of the largest travel towers in Melbourne and trained rope access workers the team managed to transform a derelict old building front into an enormous advertising display in under 8 hours.

"All of the challenges were met head on by the OE project team, from our engineer to the guys on tools. Outdoor advertising is our passion and there’s a real feeling of satisfaction to tackle big jobs like this and have our client thrilled at the result" Justin Kerr – OE Team Leader
